Let’s Make Politics!
Dave Brennan | Poetry
Steal the class from its imaginary teacher. There’s no shame in being the feather chosen to fall from its wing, or the tear voted into service by the quick hush of a heart. There are other ways of dying than getting elected. Like waving that tattered flag of a tongue. Or spinning your disgusting beard into yarns of proof. Or rowing the skiff around the drowned backyard. Or getting hounded by students eager to have a go at it. You’ve been sporting your soiled placard again, haven’t you, the one that reads: “POEMS TO KILL WHOEVERS IN CHARGE”
Dave Brennan lives in Virginia and teaches at James Madison University. He is the author of the forthcoming book Headroom in Hell (Spuyten Duyvil), as well as A Cyborg’s Father: Misreading Donna Haraway (punctum books), A Dash as Long as the Earth’s Orbit (Bateau Press), and other books. His poems have recently appeared in Conduit, Tyger Quarterly, Hotel Amerika, ANMLY and elsewhere.
